Reputed Institute of Fashion Designing Makes you Industry Ready

Placement, career scope and syllabus are some of aspects one needs to look for in an institute of fashion designing. For those who have real good talent and have some amount of professional training, the sky is the limit. You can work with top international fashion brands as well. However, fashion designing is not just restricted to designing glamorous outfits for fashion shows! There is lot more hard work, creativity and sweat involved! So what does a designer in Dolce & Gabbana or a designer like Sabysachi Mukherjee do? We stitch together a few details!

Fashion Funda (mentals)

There are 3 main areas in which a fashion designer works in global sense -
  • Haute Couture involves designers working on exclusive one-off creations for the crème de la crème of the society and is very expensive. It requires high level of skill and lot of time
  • Ready-to-wear (or prêt-a-porter) refers to designers working on garments that are sold in small numbers at a high price bearing the designer's name
  • Designing for Mass Market or High Street Stores happens when designers develop cheaper ranges for the mass market and such garments are manufactured in large numbers. This is the least creative segment as garments are made in line with strict budgets and should be easy to produce
The nitty-gritty’s of these aspects are taught generally in any institute of fashion designing.

Getting the Basics

Be it fashion design colleges in Pune or Milan or New York, these aspects are common and amateurs are given training related to all these. Designers normally work 2 seasons ahead, that’s why London and Paris Fashion Weeks which concluded recently had collections for year 2014. Designers usually discuss their premature ideas with the design and marketing team before the best are picked and made up as sample garments. Some of the responsibilities specific to fashion designer profile are –
  • Conceptualization
  •  Sketching
  •  Developing patterns
  • Supervise production
  •  Analyze trends in fabrics, colours & shapes
  • Sourcing suppliers
A career in fashion designing can be exciting and has a lot of scope too, but bear in mind folks that only 1 in thousands becomes a la Chanel or Manish Malhotra, whatever institute of fashion designing you go to!  Cheers!
